Travels

Ladakh 2008 (coming August)

Egypt Nile Cruise 2007

Vietnam 2007

Nepal/Tibet 2006

Cambodia 2005

Thailand 2004

Since a couple of years I've found a new passion: travelling to far countries and experiencing other cultures. In my twenties the family situation made it virtually impossible to travel the world. What's more, we didn't even have enough cold hard cash, even if we could have travelled.

Most of the travelling I did before 2004 was for business purposes. Especially when I worked at the European headquarters of The Iams Company I did a lot of travelling throughout Europe.

Here's a bunch of places I visited one or more times for business or pleasure.

  • United Kingdom: London, Manchester, Birmingham, (business & pleasure) and the Hampshire area (Winchester, Southampton)
  • Finland: Helsinki (business)
  • Norway: Oslo (business)
  • Denmark: Copenhagen (business)
  • Spain: Barcelona (business & pleasure - my favourite European city !), Malgrat (pleasure) and Mallorca (honeymoon), Malaga (pleasure)
  • Switzerland: Geneva (business & pleasure)
  • Belgium: Brussel (business), Gent (pleasure), Brugge (pleasure), Antwerpen (business & pleasure), Ardennen
  • Austria: Tuln (business)
  • Poland: some small town 1,5 hours from Poznan (pleasure)
  • Germany: Berlin (pleasure & business)
  • France: Britannia, Normandia, Jura.
  • India: Chennai (business, incl. visits to Mahabalipuram & Kanchipuram)

More recently I've had the chance to travel further for pure vacation purposes. In 2004 I visited Thailand and saw Bangkok, the River Kwae, Ayuttaya, Phimai, Phitsanuloke, Sukothai, Chiang Mai, Koh Chang and much more. For a (Dutch) travel diary, click here.

In 2005 I took a two week trip to Cambodia: Phnom Pehn, Ratanakiri, Siem Reap & Angkor, Sihanoukville, the works. Click here for an English travel journal and pix.

In 2006 Judith and I (and 17 other people) travelled through Nepal and Tibet. Some of the placed we visited were Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Patan, Lhasa, Ganden, Samye, Gyantse, Shigatse and Mt. Everest Basecamp. Click here for a (Dutch) travel journal and pix.

2007 saw Judith and me visiting Vietnam, where we saw places like Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta, Cu Chi tunnels, Nha Trang, Haoi An, Hué, Hanoi, Sapa, Bac Ha and Tam Coc. Click here for a (Dutch) travel journal and pix.

Another short vacation at the end of 2007 found us on a Nile Cruise in Egypt where we were submerged in the world of the Old Farao's in a journey from Luxor to Aswan.

And here's my wishlist for the next couple of years:

  • Ladakh
  • Laos
  • Sri Lanka
  • Indonesia
  • Lower Egypt
  • Myanmar (Birma)
  • Bhutan
